Liaoning makes every effort to support Hubei virus fight

Updated : 2020-02-13

Although the epidemic situation in northeastern Liaoning province is not optimistic, Liaoning has made every effort to support the city of Wuhan in Hubei province – the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China – in fighting the virus, according to local officials.

Send medical teams

Liaoning sent its first medical team, comprising 137 medical staff members, to Wuhan on Jan 26.

A week later, it sent another 118-member medical team to Wuhan; and on Feb 8, a large-scale medical team with 1,000 people was also sent.

As of Feb 9, Liaoning had sent a total of 1,382 medical staff to Wuhan within a 14-day period.

According to incomplete statistics, there are currently about 15,000 medical staff from provinces and autonomous regions outside Hubei assisting the severe virus-hit province.

Liaoning, with 2.9 percent of the country's total population, has contributed nearly 10 percent of the total of volunteer medical workers.

"The best doctors in both Liaoning's public and private hospitals have already been sent to support Wuhan", a local official said.

Donate money

Among all the enterprises that donated money to Wuhan, Liaoning's enterprises should not be underestimated.

Among the top corporate donors has been China Fangda Group Co which donated 200 million yuan ($28.72million), Ansteel Group which contributed 30 million yuan, the Dalian-headquartered Dashang Group which gave 60 million yuan, and the Dalian Mingyuan Group which donated 10 million yuan.

Meanwhile, Xin Youzhi, an internet celebrity from Liaoning, donated a total of 150 million yuan as an individual.

Donate medical supplies and daily necessities

To boost the daily supply of necessities to Hubei province, China Railway Shenyang Bureau Group shipped 1,138 metric tons of rice, 536 tons of dairy products, 36,100 boxes of medicine, 125,000 masks and 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer.

In addition, Hubei has received large quantity of medical supplies donated by Liaoning enterprises and individuals.

For example, the Neusoft Group donated high-end computer tomography machines worth 27 million yuan, while the Dalian branch of China National Petroleum Corporation donated ambulances and the Liaoning Fangda Group Co donated 20,000 sets of urgently needed protective medical clothing.
