China recently exported its first batch of self-heating hot pot products by sea from the Dalian Free Trade Zone to Tokyo Port in Japan. The DFTZ and the Liaoning Maritime Bureau have issued the first-ever domestic Self-Heating Hot Pot Sea Transportation Safety Assessment Report, providing guidance during the assembly and packaging process.
Previously, self-heating hot pots were transported separately as ingredients, seasoning packets, and heating elements, which were then assembled and sold in the destination countries. However, due to higher packaging costs in those countries, many Chinese companies have devised a plan to export the products in their fully assembled form by sea, aiming to reduce overall costs. However, the lack of specific transportation standards for such products in international shipping regulations posed challenges for their exportation.
The successful sea shipment of self-heating hot pots not only solves the transportation challenges for these ready-to-eat dishes but also sets a precedent for future exports.
