Founded in 2003, Dalian Shell Museum is located in the southeast of Xinhai Square and covers an area of 16,000 sq m. The museum is the world's biggest professional shell museum and also integrates shellfish research and exhibition. The museum is four storeys high and has a basement, exhibiting over 50,000 shellfish specimens, 3,000 ancient fossil specimens and a large number of plastic mollusk specimens.
