Dalian Modern Museum is the ideal destination for tourists wishing to learn about the city's modern history. The museum opened to the public in March 2002 and occupies a land area of 21,600 square meters, with a floor space of 30,400 sq m. The museum's main exhibition hall covers 3,000 sq m. With 1,300 cultural relics and 800 pictures on display, it showcases the city's development from a small village into the most important international port city in Northeast China between the years of 1840 and 1949. Over the last few years, Dalian Modern Museum has built links with over 60 museums from 27 provinces for staging various exhibitions. Many art exhibitions from Russia, Japan, Germany, France and the United States have also visited the museum.
