Shenyang-Dalian Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone was established under the approval of the State Council in April 2016. It refers to the national independent innovation demonstration zone combined with Shenyang High-tech Industrial Development Zone and Dalian High-tech Industrial Development Zone.
Covering an area of 27.5 square kilometers, Shenyang High-tech Industrial Development Zone was firstly established in May 1988 and became one of the first national high-tech zones in China in 1991. Dalian High-tech Industrial Development Zone was also upgraded into a national high-tech zone in 1991, with an area of 13 sq km.
The demonstration zone mainly develops advanced manufacturing industries including high-grade CNC machine tools, marine engineering equipment, aviation equipment, and energy equipment. In the first three quarters of 2017, Shenyang-Dalian Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone achieved a GDP of 182.03 billion yuan ($26.99 billion), up 7.1 percent year-on-year. Revenue from the public finance budget reached 18.02 billion yuan, an increase of 9.3 percent year-on-year.
